Nicole Richie launches new line for Macy’s

Nicole Richie is not new to fashion design. But unlike many celebrities before her, who launched “fashion lines” that faded into obscurity, Richie, 30, has transformed her designs into several successful collections.

So what’s next for this upcoming fashion mogul? An accessible and affordable new collection at one of the country’s most iconic department stores, naturally.

Her collection, Nichole Richie for Impulse, debuts in September. The line is part of a “capsule collection” at Macy’s that collaborates with designers to bring affordable yet stylish pieces to the public. Past designer collaborators have included Matthew Williamson, Karl Lagerfeld and Giambattista Valli.

However Richie’s new line is different from any other collection Macy’s has offered.  She presents two very distinct looks, edgy and bohemian, with items ranging from studded leather to maxi print dresses in peacock prints. Yet Richie manages to make the collection look effortlessly coordinated.

But make no mistake: This mix of styles was no accident. In a recent interview with Macy’s online, Richie said that she wanted to combine masculine and feminine elements, to give women a multi-dimensional feel.

And she is — one affordable piece at a time.
